Meet Septa Coda!

Los Angeles-based band Septa Coda is making waves with their unique blend of nu metal, post hardcore, progressive metal, and hip-hop. Formed in 2024, the band shares their story behind their formation, sound, and name. From their inception through a demo tape to their current lineup, Septa Coda is carving out their own niche in the local music scene.

The History

Septa Coda's lineup features Jean Charles on rap vocals, Levi Jaymes on sung vocals, Malachi Jaymes on guitar, Jack Wendt on bass, and Sam Aseh on drums. The band came together mainly through Malachi's efforts. Although the idea started with a demo tape Levi and Malachi crafted in 2023, the band members all started playing music together about a year ago. The group is mostly comprised of LA natives, with Malachi and Levi having roots in LA but having moved around Arizona and Oregon, while Jack hails from Oregon.

Story Behind the Name

The name was formed as more intuitive than intentional, Septa Coda combines the Latin prefix 'septa' meaning 'seven' and 'coda' meaning 'ending'. The name is open-ended for everyone to give their own interpretation - and that's kinda the point.

Sound and Musical Influences

Septa Coda draws inspiration from Indianapolis natives The Contortionist, blending their complexity with hip-hop's rythm and infectious beats. Their sound is also created by injecting their own dynamic with dual-vocalists inspired by early 2000s post-hardcore. But with an extremely unique modern twist - they swapped screams for rap. This bold fusion gives birth to a genre-bending sound that's equal parts NU Metal, Post Hardcore, Progressive Metal, and Hip-Hop, comparable to Rae Sremmurd meets Prog Metal.

Interesting Facts:

With diverse musical backgrounds and eclectic tastes, each member brings their own flavor into the mix, resulting in a distinctive and captivating sound. The bands ultimate dream is to take their music on the road and tour the world someday. And with a sound like theirs, they are destined to go far.
