Formed in 2017, Garage Ratz blends Surf Rock, Garage Rock, and Punk to create a high-energy sound. Inspired by bands like The Misfits, their live shows feature catchy originals and humorous pop culture covers. With a name that reflects their garage band roots, Garage Ratz is all about raw energy, creativity, and having a good time.
We formed in late 2017. When we first started majority of the band including Matt came from Santa Clarita. So we started out playing shows in the SCV. James and Mark are from the San Fernando Valley.
James met the former guitar player at work. At the time the band just started and they had a guitarist, bassist, and drummer. They didn’t have a singer so James came in and jammed with them. He could sing and play guitar so he fit right in.
We all have different styles and influences so we have a wide range of music. Most people say it sounds like when Surf Rock meets The Dead Kennedys and then has a love affair with Garage Rock. You just have to come see us live for yourself.
The Misfits were a huge inspiration to us when we first started. Our rhythm guitar player brought elements of surf rock into our music. While a lot of the lead guitar was inspired by the flair of 80’s rock.
Before James joined the band, the boys were set on naming the band Reverse Birth. After we had played together and developed our sound we agreed on Garage Ratz. Mostly because we used everyone’s garage as a rehearsal spot.
We were always set on writing and performing original music. We have a lot of fun playing cover songs from Pop culture live such as the King of the Hill theme song and the Dragon Ball Z theme song. It always starts with James playing a new song on guitar just to make the boys laugh. We all love performing these songs and it always gets the crowd hyped.
We also play Birthdays, Bar Mitzvahs, Retirement homes, and funerals.
Group Goal this year is we want to film a promo for every show we play. Our video promos are heavily inspired by sketch comedy and parody movies.
We are playing Battle of the Bands on Sunday April 13th at Transplants Brewery. We’ve been trying to play there for a while and this is our opportunity. We have new music coming out in October. Also working on a Music Video to go along with the single.
You guys should feature our friends Couch $urf, Mystery Club, Jet Jaguar, Desert Pinguinos, The Pee Pees, and We are Wasted.
These guys have talent! Watch their official video for another great song of theirs, Daq Attack, which was released late last year.
