Dev Elephant is a Los Angeles-based alt-rock band formed in 2020. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, and Tool, they blend diverse sounds to craft a unique genre-bending style that seamlessly shifts from heavy, driving riffs to soft, melodic moments. The band is made up of Edwin Martinez on guitar and vocals, Vincent Beffi on drums/back up vox and Roland Priesing on bass/back up vox.
DevElephant was just beginning in early 2020, playing a show late January with more gigs lined up in the horizon. But when COVID hit, the momentum and live music halted. When things were briefly re-opening, they played at local legendary venue, The Mint, but then were back to square one when everything shut down again. During the downtime, they focused on their music, practiced tirelessly to improve their instrumental skills and deepen their artistic connection as a band. Their paths crossed through mutual friends in the local music scene. Vincent and Edwin were just jamming with an old friend, and before they knew it, a full band was born. Roland joined a bit later, but in the year, he's become integral to the group. They had their share of lineup changes, but these guys have become the official crew.
The band name is rooted in the concepts of evolution and memory. Inspired by the elephant's legendary ability to never forget, they aim to create music that leaves a lasting impact on all listeners. Just as evolution shapes and molds species over time, this sound is crafted to evolve and resonate with people long after the music ends. They want their songs to linger, to be remembered, and to leave an indelible mark on those who experience them.
Their music ranges from heavy, intense, to soft and beautiful songs. Always open to experimenting with different styles and drawing inspiration from various bands, like Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, and Tool.
Their sound is versatile and not tethered to a specific genre or style. As stated by Edwin, "The band was born from a shared love of pushing boundaries musically and lyrically and creating something that resonates with people who feel deeply and think differently. "
DevElephant primarily plays their own original music but enjoys surprising the audience with the occasional cover songs. There's nothing quite like seeing everyone's reactions when they break into an unexpected track - it's something they find quite exhilarating. But what really makes it all worth it is when fans request one of their own originals at a show. They really enjoy seeing how much their fans connect with their music when they play it. That's what they consider the ultimate reward.
"We're actually hitting the studio right now to record four songs we did at our last show at Shadow Grove, so we're excited to release those once they're done." Their next big show is on May 10th in Burbank, where they'll be sharing the stage with Rascal Stew, Desert Pinguinos, and Womb. Tickets are selling out fast, so it's shaping up to be a packed and exciting event!
"As a group, our goal is to create honest music that connects deeply with people, to grow our audience organically, and eventually tour nationally while staying true to our artistic roots."
